Wrapping up

I have struggled with some weeks, and been behind most of the semester, but I've finally finished. I enjoyed learning more about flickr, and may use it in the future in my personal life. I was already using Library Thing, so that week was easier for me. I am glad to have had exposure to the different things that were included and have a greater appreciation for them and how they could be utilized in a library setting.

Wikis

I have used wikipedia on a few occasions, usually when I need the basics on a topic. I like the idea of wikis for the same reason I like tagging. It adds to the richness of the information. Wikis, to me, are a sort of online brainstorming site where lots of people with lots of ideas and experiences share with others.

Tagging and del.icio.us

I can see how tagging could be scary to some librarians. To me, I think it just adds another dimension to everything. As librarians, we should welcome anything that makes it easier for people to find the information they need. And I love the look of tag clouds for some reason!

I like the idea of del.icio.us, but I think it can get overwhelming. Though maybe not so much in a library, where people hope to find several sources on the topic they are looking for. But for personal use, I know I'd forget what I put in there.

LibraryThing - Week 7

I actually had set up a librarything account a while ago. I try to keep track of books I've read, but it isn't entirely accurate. I like the ease of use, but I'm not sure about the layout. I will need to play around with it a bit more to be able to use it to its full advantage. The suggester has a lot of possibilities for readers advisory, but the unsuggester is more fun. I put in the Anna Quindlen book Blessings, and the unsuggester came up with a lot of science fiction.

Flickr

Here is a picture of my twin girls. On the left is Becca and on the right is Kacey. I actually uploaded it from my email, but I do understand how to use photo sites like Kodak Gallery and Snapfish. I've browsed Flickr before this assignment, and think it is a great tool for sharing photos. I can see using this more in my personal life than professional one. For example, we tend to take a lot of photos at family reunions, and Flickr would be a great site to use.

Week 4

Our website already allows for feedback, and it can be useful in finding out public opinions about programs, policies, etc. I think it's a good thing to have.

RSS feeds

I've added feeds to my account in Bloglines. I was already familiar with feeds by using My Yahoo as well.

Finally done

I finally created my blog - better late than never.
